Board game inserts

Prototyping....

I went to the UK Games Expo today at the NEC. I was only there a couple of hours.

It was very busy and far too peopley for me.

Anyways - I picked up a board game that had just been released today.

Timber Town. A nice little 2 player tile laying game. It looks quite fun. But there’s no sign of any insert in the box and just a few bags. So it could do with just a little organisation.

I had a search on Printables, Thingiverse and maker whatsit to see if there were any inserts - there was not a single one. Which makes sense - its brand new ( I didn’t realise quite how brand new when I went to look. )

I decided to have a go at designing my own insert - so I loaded up tinkercad, started creating boxes and then putting negative space boxes in there.

Rather than spending three hours printing something that might not actually work out - I’ve sliced things in half to prototype them to see what the situation is before committing to actually printing them and then making them available for other people to download and print.

It’s pretty intuitive and quite fun so far.

You can see a cross section here of some token storage and some long tile storage to just check for fit.

A Cross Section Prototype

Will let you know how it goes.

If it works out I’ll stick some links to the finished design below.
